The engine was a Liquid cooled cooled Two stroke, single cylinder. 
 
==Drive==
Power was moderated via the Hydraulic multidisc.. 
 
==Chassis==
It came with a 120/60 -17 front [[tire]] and a 150/60 -17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Single 260mm disc 1 piston caliper in the front and a Single 220mm disc 1 piston caliper in the rear. The front suspension was a  45mm Upside-down Marzocchi fork while the rear was equipped with a Progressive system with Öhlins shock absorber. The SM250 was fitted with a 9.5 Liters / 2.5 US gal fuel tank. The bike weighed just 102 kg / 225 lbs. The wheelbase was 1476 mm / 58.1 in long.
