The '''[[Yamaha]] IT 400''' was a Single cylinder, two stroke, air-cooled Trial [[motorcycle]] produced by [[Yamaha]] in 1978. Max [[torque]] was 30.98 ft/lbs (42.0 Nm) @ 6000 RPM. Claimed [[horsepower]] was 39.96 HP (29.8 KW) @ 7000 RPM.

A 83.8mm [[bore]] x 83.8mm [[stroke]] result in a [[displacement]] of just 398.0 cubic centimeters. 
 
==Drive==
The bike has a 5-Speed transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet multi-discs. 
 
==Chassis==
It came with a 3.00-21 front [[tire]] and a 150/80-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Drum in the front and a Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a  Telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a Monoshock. The wheelbase was 56.3 inches (1430 mm) long.

The IT 400 motorcycle design is a tought nut for any manufactured to track. Punching the IT trought tight wooded sections is easy.
