The Kawasaki ER 5 was a Twin-cylinder, 4 stroke, liquid cooled, DOHC 16V Naked motorcycle produced by Kawasaki in 1996. Max torque was 31.72 ft/lbs (43.0 Nm) @ 7200 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 48.95 HP (36.5 KW) @ 8 RPM.

Engine
A 73.7mm bore x 73.7mm stroke result in a displacement of just 498.0 cubic centimeters.

Drive
The bike has a 6-Speed transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet multi-plate.

Chassis
It came with a 110/70-17M/C (54H) front tire and a 130/70-17M/C (62H) rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Single disc 280 mm with 2 piston calipers in the front and a Drum 160 mm in the rear. The front suspension was a  Telescopic fork while the rear was equipped with a Dual rear shocks with 5-way adjustable preload. The wheelbase was 56.3 inches (1430 mm) long.

My Kawasaki ER 5 is better than most of its rivals. But that’s not saying much and Honda’s CB 500 beats it hollow in most respects. The Kawasaki ER-5 brakes are particularly woeful and pillions only make matters worse. Rider comfort is good on the ER-5 and the gearbox is fine for the first few winters. The steel-tube cradle frame is stiff enough for the 37kW (50 hp) the re-tuned GPZ engine pumps out, and although the suspension is rather soft, the ER-5's light too much work to do.
