An endurance rider in the early days, in 1917 he rode 1,000 miles (1610km) non¬stop at the Ascot Park race circuit, averaging 48.3mph (77.7km) for nearly 21 hours. He also set new records for the 24 hours (48.1mph/77.4km/h). 12 hours (49.5mph/80km/h) and 500 miles (50.1mph/81km/h).
