A group of ricers in the 1960s which, increasingly dissatisfied with the AMA's restriction of non-approved events, formed its own organization. When big names, like Dick Mann began to compete in these 'unofficial' events, it soon became clear that the AMA would have to move with the times and accept different forms of competition that were becoming increasingly popular with the public. It was in these exchanges, often through the pages of Cycle World magazine, that the AMA was increasingly accused of being dominated by Harley-Davidson and not representative of American motorcycling in general.
