The '''[[Aprilia]] Scarabeo 200ie''' was a single cylinder, [[four-stroke]] scooter produced by [[Aprilia]] between 2003 and 2015. Max [[torque]] was 12.69 ft/lbs (17.2 Nm) @ 7500 RPM. Claimed [[horsepower]] was 18.64 HP (13.9 KW) @ 8250 RPM.  

==Engine==
The engine was a [[liquid cooled]] single cylinder, four-stroke. A 63.0mm [[bore]] x 58.0mm [[stroke]] result in a [[displacement]] of just 181.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a double overhead cams/twin [[cam]] (dohc).  

==Drive==
The bike has a automatic transmission. Power was moderated via the automatic centrifugal.  

==Chassis==
It came with a 110/90-16 front [[tire]] and a 120/80-16 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via single disc. three-piston floating caliper in the front and a single disc in the rear. The front suspension was a  hydraulic fork while the rear was equipped with a engine acting as swingarm; two hydraulic shock absorbers with adjustable spring preload. The Scarabeo 200ie was fitted with a 2.11 Gallon (8.00 Liters) fuel tank. The bike weighed just 339.51 pounds (154.0 Kg). The wheelbase was 54.33 inches (1380 mm) long.  

==Overview==

The Italian manufacturer [[Aprilia]], now part of the [[Piaggio]] group, has been producing a line of large-wheel Scarabeo scooters (from 50 to 500cc) since 1993. Their distinguishing feature is a very polished, typically Italian neo-retro design that hints of [[Vespa]]'s contemporary creations.

This new version of the Scarabeo 125 is no exception, although its silhouette now leans more towards 'neo' than 'retro'. Another noticeable difference between this and the old model is the compactness of the scooter's dimensions, making urban driving considerably easier.

== The Scarabeo 125 reaches out to new riders ==


Less intimidating than the old model, this Scarabeo 125 can be recommended for beginners. Its large 16" wheels provide a very stable ride without excessively reducing maneuverability in congested traffic. A firm hand is needed to set the bike on its trajectory, but there is no real cause for concern, especially since the scooter's slimlines allow riders to thread their way between lanes without difficulty.

Another noteworthy advantage for novices is the standard combined braking system which allows them to decelerate with one hand; there is very little danger of wheel lock, even in wet weather. Indeed, use of the left-hand brake lever (which operates the front and back brakes simultaneously) is sufficient for braking in most situations; the right-hand lever is reserved for emergency stops.


== Stability and comfort ==


We found the new Scarabeo 125 to be an easy-to-drive, comfortable scooter. Much attention has been paid to the suspension, as can be attested by its quality performance both on uneven surfaces and tight bends. This makes up for the saddle, which may seem a little firm to those with sensitive posteriors.

The small, standard windshield is somewhat symbolic in terms of protection, but it at least has the significant advantage of not obscuring the rider's vision during rainy weather conditions.

Although comfortably seated, passengers are likely to bemoan the very small footrests which are too narrow to provide for good support.


== New twin cam engine ==


With this latest Scarabeo 125 comes a new liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke four-valve engine with double overhead cam cylinder heads, designed in tandem with parent company Piaggio. This carburetor-fuelled engine runs to a maximum of 15 hp and conforms to the latest EURO 3 norms.

However, when we tested it we found characteristics typical of Piaggio Leader engines (which power, among others, the previous version of the Scarabeo). Relatively lethargic at low revs, its inertia doesn't really disappear until about 40 km/h (25 mph). On the other hand it becomes much livelier between 50 km/h (30 mph) and 100 km/h (60 mph) with reassuring acceleration, even in the fast lane. Its top speed is probably around 110 km/h (70 mph), with average fuel consumption of 4l/100km.

In comparison, the Honda SH, hands-down best-seller in this sector, rides better at low and mid revs, but it is not quite as swift on the open road.


== Average equipment ==


Unlike the previous Scarabeo 125, the new version has an underseat storage compartment. This, however, is of modest proportions due to the space taken up by the bike's large wheels: it will only hold one small Jet helmet with a visor.

To improve carrying capacity, an optional top box can be fitted on the rear luggage rack. Also worth mentioning are the flat floor - practical for transporting large loads, like big shopping bags - and the glovebox on the fascia panel.

The instrumentation provides all the necessary information with, in addition to all the standard displays, two tripometers, a clock, an external temperature gauge, a service warning and battery charge level indicator.
