Leopold was instrumental in forcing Harley-Davidson to build its own sidecars. He bought up the Rogers sidecar company in late 1925, Rogers having been Harley's main supplier and refused to reserve his entire production for the company, to the point of stopping production altogether. Faced with the sudden withdrawal of its main supplier, Harley-Davidson had no choice but to start making sidecars itself.
