The engine was a Air/oil cooled cooled Four stroke, two cylinder horizontally opposed Boxer, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder. The engine featured a 12.0:1 compression ratio.

Power was moderated via the Single-plate dry clutch, ∅180mm.
Chassis[edit | edit source]
It came with a 110/80 ZR19 front tire and a 150/70 ZR17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via 2 x ∅305mm discs, 4 piston caliper. Optional: BMW Motorrad Integral ABS in the front and a Single ∅265mm disc 2 piston caliper. Optional: BMW Motorrad Integral ABS in the rear. The front suspension was a Telelever, stanchion diameter ∅41mm, central spring strut, spring preload 9 times mechanically adjustable while the rear was equipped with a Die-cast aluminum single-sided swinging arm with BMW Motorrad Paralever, WAD strut (travel-related damping), spring pre-load hydraulically adjustable to continuously variable levels by means of handwheel, rebound damping adjustable.. The tank cover is finished in Alpine White, while the rear frame is in a powerful Magma Red - all in memory of the legendary and victorious Dakar GS machines. The overall sporty impression is rounded off by the cylinder head cover in Granite Grey metallic and the aluminum die-cast single-sided swing arm in Asphalt Grey metallic. Contrast is provided by the engine finished in black and the fork of the same color, as well as the seat in black/off-white with red inlaid seams. The paint finish of the special model available from next season is rounded off with an extensive range of equipment: the on-board computer, bag holder, heated grips and Enduro ESA provide unsurpassed ride comfort, while the hand protector in exclusive white and the chrome exhaust ensures a conspicuous appearance. The special model R 1200 GS Rallye - no fan will ever want to be without this unique special series of the GS legend.

winning GS bikes. This new special model comes in Alpine White body with Magma
