The engine was a liquid cooled twin, four-stroke. A 101.0mm bore x 73.0mm stroke result in a displacement of just 1170.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a double overhead cams/twin cam (dohc).
The bike has a 6-speed transmission. Power was moderated via the wet eight-disc clutch with anti-hopping function, hydraulically operated.
It came with a 120/70-zr17 front tire and a 180/55-zr17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via double disc. abs in the front and a single disc. abs in the rear. The front suspension was a bmw motorrad telelever while the rear was equipped with a bmw motorrad evo paralever. The R1200RT was fitted with a 6.6 Gallon (25.00 Liters) fuel tank. The bike weighed just 514.12 pounds (233.2 Kg). The wheelbase was 58.46 inches (1485 mm) long.

The engineers from the House of Munich have taken a base R1200RT and have fitted it with a host of accessories especially developed for law enforcement officers, in the embodiment of the 2007 MY BMW R1200RT Police. Unlike the base model, it features rear engine protection bars, ABS II, a radio box with a mounting base, 8-fused circuits for police equipment, Dunlop Run-Flat performance tires, top-opening police saddlebags, LED emergency light housings, a harness pre-wired for police accessories and a calibrated police speedometer.
In the tech/engine department, it sports the same dependable boxer engine as the base model, as well as the Telelever and Paralever suspension system.
