The engine was a Air cooled cooled Four stroke, two cylinder horizontally opposed Boxer, pushrod operated 2 valves per cylinder. The engine featured a 8.2:1 compression ratio.

Drive[edit | edit source]

Power was moderated via the Dry single plate, with diaphragm spring.

Chassis[edit | edit source]

It came with a 90/90 x 21S front tire and a 13/80 x 17S rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Single ∅285mm disc in the front and a ∅200mm Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a ∅40mm Marzocchi telescopic hydraulic forks. while the rear was equipped with a BMW Paralever swinging arm. The R80GS Basic was fitted with a 19.5 L / 5.1 US gal fuel tank. The wheelbase was 1514 mm / 59.6 in long.
