The 1997 MY BMW R 80 GS Kalahari addresses those riders who want to adventure on the most treacherous terrains possible, but also want a machine capable of trivial tasks such as daily commuting. It comes with features such as a a 40mm Marzocchi telescopic front fork, a BMW Motorrad Paralever rear suspension unit, a front disc brake coupled to a rear drum, a dual seat, passenger grab rails, a high-mounted exhaust system, laced wheels, an analogue instrumentation panel and a steel frame.


In the engine department, it sports an air-cooled, four-stroke, 797cc, boxer two cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission and can produce a claimed 50 horsepower and 61 Nm of torque. This model was launched only in South Africa, with a special white livery and a blue frame.
