Engine
A 68.6mm bore x 68.6mm stroke result in a displacement of just 494.0 cubic centimeters.

Drive
The bike has a 3-speed, manual transmission. Power was moderated via the dry, single plate.

Chassis
It came with a 26 x 3.5 front tire and a 26 x 3.5 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via 200mm drum in the front and a block brake in the rear. The front suspension was a  plate spring fork while the rear was equipped with a hard-tail, sprung seat.

The 1928 BMW R 57 has, at its heart, an air-cooled, four-stroke, 494cc, twin cylinder powerplant paired to a four-speed manual transmission and can reach a maximum power output of 18 horsepower at 4000 rpm. This classic machine from the House of Munich had standard fittings such as a plate spring front fork, a rigid rear suspension with a sprung single seat, a rear luggage rack, a small headlamp, laced wheels, a center stand, a front drum brake coupled to a block brake in the rear and a 12-liter (3.3-gallon) fuel tank.
