Overview

Benelli 402S

Benelli has unveiled the 402S cruiser motorcycle at the ongoing 2017 EICMA Motor Show. Taking its design inspiration directly from the Ducati Diavel, Using the Diavel as a guide, Benelli have given the 402S an exposed trellis frame, a short stubby sub-frame with a sporty seat, and an elongated tank for a proper power cruiser look. The frighteningly short pillion seat sits on top of a tidy rear tail that comes complete with split rear lights, and stands above the 402S’s tire hugger that acts as a license plate holder and holds on to the bike’s turn signals too.

The engine is the new in-line four-stroke twin cylinder, liquid cooled with four valves per cylinder and double overhead camshaft head, offering a fluid power delivery for optimum fuel consumption. Its maximum power is 39.4 hp (29 kW) at 9000 rpm, with torque of 35 Nm (3.6 kgm) at 7000 rpm. The bike has a wet multiplate clutch, 6 speed gearbox, electronic injection with double throttle body measuring 37 mm in diameter.

The tube trellis frame with steel plates emphasises the cruiser spirit of this new motorcycle. The suspensions on the front consist in an upside down fork with 41 mm legs and 125 mm travel, and on the back a swinging arm with central adjustable monoshock in the spring preload with a travel of 45 mm.

The braking system on the front end consists in double semi-floating 260 mm diameter discs, and the back end a 240 mm disc, with 4-piston callipers on the front and a single piston on the back. The bike is also obviously equipped with ABS. The 17" aluminum alloy rims mount 120/70-R17 and 160/60-R17 tires. The height of the seat, as per tradition, is set at 740 mm and is able to offer maximum agility and control of the vehicle. The tank has a capacity of 16 liters, guaranteeing many kilometres of autonomy.
