Formed to represent those who sold British bikes in America after the Second World War. They had a legal battle with Harley-Davidson in 1951, when the company sought to have the duty on imported bikes increased from 8 to 40 per cent, and imports restricted to prewar levels - a tiny fraction of what was being sold by then. The court found against Harley-Davidson, and in the next 20 years, dealers sold ever-increasing numbers of British bikes in the US.
