The Suzuki PE range of enduro machines was developed from the RM motocrossers, and incorportated many race-proven components.
Suzuki PE series

As an example, the PE250 used the basic RM250 engine with its crankcase reed-induction system.  Other motorcross items included chrome-moly steel frame, box-type swingarm, laid-down gas/oil shocks and leading axle forks, while the enduro requirements included larger-capacity fuel tank, speedometer with resettable trip meter, protected (chromed wire) headlamp grill, and steel sump bash guard.

There was also a PE175 and for the 1980 model year the wealth of experience gained was used to create the PE400.

For 1981 Suzuki created its "X" series; by then the 175 was putting out 28bhp, the 250, 35bhp and the 400, 42bhp.  All three machines still retained the air-cooling and twin-shock rear suspension.  A year later Suzuki's "Full Floater" monoshock rear suspension was adopted from the RM series.
