The 2011 MY Ducati 1198SP unlike the base 1198, boasts upgrades such as an Ohlins suspension package and steering damper, a slipper clutch, a lightweight, aluminium fuel tank, the Ducati Traction Control (DTC), a Ducati Quick Shifter (DQS) and a Ducati Data Analyser (DDA) technology. Also, it comes with a racing stripe on its livery, to further increase its desirability.

In the engine department it sports a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, 1198cc, 90-degree V-Twin desmodromic powerhouse, mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a chain final drive, that can produce  a claimed 170 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque.
