Greeves
The Essex firm of Greeves was best known for its trials and motocross bikes, however they also produced roadsters and the Silverstone road-racer in the 1950s and 1960s. Most of the roadsters were either 250 or 250cc two-strokes, which engines sourced from British Anzani or Villiers, and were appointed names like "Fleetmaster", "Sportsman" and "Sports Twin". The Greeves Hawkstone scrambler had many offroad successes including the European 250cc championships won by Dave Bickers in 1960 and 1961. in 1969 Bill Wilkinson won the Scottish Six Days Trial on a 250cc Greeves Anglian ahead of Sammy Miller's Bultaco, bringing the end to Britain's long domination of the trials world.
On some greeves dirt bikes, Greeves found out that the kickstarter would not clear the footpeg when starting, so you had to fold up the peg by hand and hook it onto a restraining ring. Nice touch.
