Harley-Davidson Bonus Bucks

A dealer incentive scheme of the 1980s, except that the Harley-Davidson dealers didn't see it that way. Their profit margins on the big twins were cut by 5 per cent, but they could earn that back by taking part in company-run schemes; demo rides advertising, stocking levels, service training courses. Feelings ran high and 32 dealers actually broke away to form their own dealer organization, the Dealers Alliance. Relations between the DA and Harley-Davidson were strained until Harley-Davidson modified the Bonus Bucks scheme and made the Dealer Advisory Council organization elective.
