The engine was a [[air cooled]] v2, four-stroke. A 88.9mm [[bore]] x 96.8mm [[stroke]] result in a [[displacement]] of just 1201.2 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a overhead valves (ohv). 
==Drive==
The bike has a 5-speed transmission. Power was moderated via the multi-plate with diaphragm spring in oil bath. 
==Chassis==
It came with a 120/70-zr18 front [[tire]] and a 180/55-zr17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via single disc. dual-piston in the front and a single disc. single-piston in the rear. The front suspension was a  39 mm while the rear was equipped with a mild steel, rectangular tube section, stamped junctions, mig welded swing-arm. coil-over; preload dual-adjustable shocks.. The XR1200X was fitted with a 3.5 Gallon (13.25 Liters) fuel tank. The bike weighed just 550.94 pounds (249.9 Kg). The wheelbase was 60.0 inches (1524 mm) long.
