The bike has a chain transmission. Power was moderated via the wet multi-disc, manual.

The 2013 MY Harley Davidson FLHTP Electra Glide Police sports the proven, air-cooled, 1690cc, Twin Cam 103 powerplant that can produce 135 Nm, and is mated to a manual, six-speed Cruise Drive transmission. It features several improvements in its performance and functionality, especially designed to help law enforcement officers. An independent ABS comes as standard, and the saddlebags have special latches for easier access while seated. The rear drive sprocket is an isolated 68-tooth rubber one, which translates in smoother acceleration and the final belt drive means less hassle with maintenance. The 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust keeps the exhaust gasses away from the rider, for increased comfort, while the long-stem "true image" mirrors ensure an accurate representation of images.
