The Honda CMX450 "Rebel" was a motorcycle manufactured by Honda for model years 1986 and 1987. In contrast to the Rebel 250 250cc cruiser, it has a 450cc motor. The introduction of the Rebel 250 and 450 has been cited as a way for Honda to attract female riders, new to motorcycling, due to these bikes' low seat heights, low center of gravity, and overall ease of handling;[2] however, the September 1985 issue of Motorcyclist magazine, when the Rebel was first introduced, states "by targeting the bike to a young audience, such as those who watch MTV, Honda hopes to attract newcomers and expand the motorcycle market ... Honda is not marketing this motorcycle as a woman's bike".[3] It has a single disc brake in the front and a drum in the rear. The only gauge is a speedometer that includes gear recommendations based on speed; there is no tachometer. The transmission is a standard down-1st, up-2nd to 6th. The 6th speed acts as an overdrive.

Engine

The engine was a Air cooled cooled Four stroke, parallel twin cylinder. SOHC, 3 valve per cylinder. The engine featured a 9.3:1 compression ratio.

Drive

Power was moderated via the Wet, multi-plate.

Chassis

It came with a 100/90 -18 front tire and a 140/90 -15 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Single 240mm discs 2 piston caliper in the front and a 230mm Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a Center axle fork, 38mm forks, 140mm wheel travel while the rear was equipped with a Dual shocks adjustable spring preload,. The CMX450C Rebel was fitted with a 12 Liters / 3.1 US gal fuel tank. The bike weighed just 174.0 kg / 383.6 lbs. The wheelbase was 1530 mm / 60.2 in long.

1986

The Honda Rebel 450 designated CMX450C'86 (CMX450CL'86 in California) was sold in 1986. Two colors were available: Pearl Stellar black and Monte Rosa Silver Metallic. The fuel tank decal was a Honda wing. The battery cover decal reads "REBEL FOUR-FIFTY". The bike had flanged spoke wheels with tubeless tires. The engine was a 447cc 4-stroke SOHC 3-valve parallel twin with a 6-speed transmission. The California serial number began JH2PC1715GM000001 while the rest of the United States models began JH2PC1706GM000001.

1987

The CMX450C-87 was sold in 1987 in one of two colors: Candy Glory Red or Black. The gas tank decal reads "REBEL HONDA". The control levers are polished. The battery cover decal reads "REBEL FOUR-FIFTY". The bike had flanged spoke wheels with tubeless tires. The engine was a 447cc 4-stroke SOHC 3-valve parallel twin with a 6-speed transmission. The serial number began JH2PC170*HM100001.
