The Honda FT500 Ascot was a Single cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled Naked motorcycle produced by Honda in 1983. Max torque was 30.24 ft/lbs (41.0 Nm) @ 5000 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 34.06 HP (25.4 KW) @ 6200 RPM.

History

Honda also made another ascot that was a V-Twin and it was designated VT500

Engine

A 88.9mm bore x 88.9mm stroke result in a displacement of just 497.0 cubic centimeters. It used a very similar powerplant to the Honda XR500 and Honda XL500.

Drive

The bike has a 5-Speed manual transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet Multi-Plate.

Chassis

It came with a 3.50-19 front tire and a 4.25-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Single disc 296 mm in the front and a Single disc 276 mm in the rear. The front suspension was a 37mm Air assisted forks while the rear was equipped with a Dual gas shocks, spring preload adjustable.



1982

The Honda Ascot, designated FT500'82, was sold in 1982. Two colors were available: Monza Red and Black. The tank stripes and the "FT500" decal were gray and silver on the red bike; but they were red and orange on the black bike. The speedometer was limited to 85 mph (135 kph). The headlight was rectangular and so were the instruments. The bike had electric start and the exhaust system was a 2-into-1. The engine was a 498cc OHC, 4-valve single cylinder with one carburetor. The transmission was a 5-speed. The serial number began JH2PC0708CM000019.

The FT500'83 was sold in 1983 in one of two colors: Monza Red or Black. The tank and side cover stripes on the red bike were white and blue; but on the black bike they were silver and red. The headlight and instruments were rectangular. The speedometer had a 120 mph (195 kph) limit.

1983 Honda FT500 Ascot

Honda has introduced the Ascot, a 500cc single-cylinder roadster that uses the basic XR/XL powerplant developed for the 79 model year. This engine has up-to-date technological features, including a four-valve head and engine counterbalancers.
