The engine was a air cooled v2, four-stroke. A 101.6mm bore x 108.0mm stroke result in a displacement of just 1720.8 cubic centimeters. The engine featured a 9.5:1 compression ratio.

The LE Version of the 2012 Indian Chief Vintage is one designed especially for those nostalgic riders who also have a taste for one-of-a-kind machines. It comes standard with distressed leather saddlebags, a passenger backrest, a rear luggage rack, chrome highway pegs, chromed lace-spoke wheels, and a special, two-tone, Pearl White & Thunder Black, paint scheme.
At its heart lies an air-cooled, four-stroke, 1720cc, Power Plus 105 V-Twin powerhouse paired to a six-speed manual transmission.
