A gruelling cross-country competition of around 500 miles (805km), featuring rough tracks to be negotiated and fast-flowing streams to be forded. It seems to have been traditional for younger members of the Davidson and Harley families to take part, and William H. Davidson later to become president of Harley-Davidson, won the event in 1930.
