The KTM 400 EXC was a single cylinder, four-stroke enduro / offroad motorcycle produced between 2000 and 2011. Claimed horsepower was 43.05 HP (32.1 KW) @ 8000 RPM.
Engine[edit | edit source]
The engine was a liquid cooled single cylinder, four-stroke. A 95.0mm bore x 55.5mm stroke result in a displacement of just 393.4 cubic centimeters. The engine featured a 11.1:1 compression ratio. Fuel was supplied via a overhead cams (ohc).
Drive[edit | edit source]
The bike has a 6-speed transmission. The final drive was via chain. Power was moderated via the wet mdouble disk clutch, operated hydraulically.
Chassis[edit | edit source]
It came with a 90/90-21 front tire and a 140/80-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via single disc in the front and a single disc in the rear. The front suspension was a wp usd 48 mm (1.89 in) while the rear was equiped with a wp-pds shock absorber. The 400 EXC was fitted with a 2.51 Gallon (9.50 Liters) fuel tank. 2000 - 2003 KTM 400 EXC Racing[edit | edit source]
This motorcycle has made a big impression on the 400 cc, four-stroke market. The KTM has taken a slightly different approach to the configuration of the engine in 2000. The power delivery is smooth, almost the same as the Husaberg. The WP suspension package is firm and aimed at the competition end of the market. I had a bit of trouble getting an even response from the inverted front forks on the first ride. The cause even when the bike was stationary.
