Pinehurst Meeting

This was a seminal week in Harley history. Vaughn Beals, the man brought in by AMF to turn Harley-Davidson around, decided in April 1976 to take all Harley-Davidson senior managers on a week-long brainstorming session to Pinehurst, North Carolina where the long-term project strategy could he thoroughly explored. What emerged was a two-point plan. First was to improve the existing V-twin gradually and this was eventually unveiled as the Evolution engine, which carried Harley-Davidson right through the 1980s and '90s. Second was the NOVA family of all-new engines.
