Suzuki SP370: history, specs, pictures

Revision as of 17:53, 23 May 2019 by Budlight (talk | contribs) (minor fixes)

The Suzuki SP370 is a motorcycle produced by Suzuki from 1978 to 1979. The Suzuki SP370 was the first Suzuki motorcycle with a single cylinder four-stroke engine, if you don't count the short-lived Colleda CO and COX models from the fifties. Unfortunately it had a bit too weak engine and it was a bit too expensive to become a great success. Yamaha, for example, could offer a 500cc trail bike for the same money as you had to pay for the SP370. It was made in the US from 1978-1979. Suzuki produced an enduro oriented variant in the Suzuki DR370

The Suzuki SP370 was a single cylinder, four-stroke Enduro motorcycle produced by Suzuki between 1978 and 1979. It could reach a top speed of 80 mph (129 km/h). Max torque was 20.65 ft/lbs (28.0 Nm) @ 4000 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 26.42 HP (19.7 KW) @ 7500 RPM.

Engine

The engine was a air cooled single cylinder, four-stroke. A 85.0mm bore x 65.2mm stroke result in a displacement of just 370.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a overhead cams (ohc).

Drive

The bike has a 5-speed transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet multi-plate.

Chassis

It came with a 3.00-21 front tire and a 4.00-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via expanding brake in the front and a expanding brake in the rear. The front suspension was a Telescopic fork while the rear was equipped with a Full floater, swingarm. The SP370 was fitted with a 2.25 Gallon (8.50 Liters) fuel tank. The wheelbase was 55.91 inches (1420 mm) long.

1979 Suzuki SP 370

The 1978 Suzuki SP 370 was the first motorcycle with a single cylinder, four stroke engine, after the short lived Colleda CO and COX models from the fifties. In 1988 SP 370 was replaced by the SP 400, a similar bike but with more powerful engine.
