Editing Talk:What Motor Oil Should You Use?

Definitely a good course of action to say use the manual as a starting point.  I'm not sure enough of this to add it to the article but I believe that the friction additives the article mentions aren't necessarily an issue with lower grade oils.  I think it is possible they weren't added until the SJ specification?  Quite a few Japanese [[motorcycles]] will say in the [[OEM]] service manual that anything above SE is okay, but will read "SJ with JASO MA". It occurs to me that I don't know if CycleChaos is aimed at a U.S. audience.

In the U.S., requiring the use of OEM motor oil in order to maintain a warranty is strictly prohibited under the [http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/warranty.htm#Magnuson-Moss Magnuson-Moss Act].  Quote:
:"Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty."

::Ok first, I think that does establish that they can't void the warranty in whole.  Secondly, I think it might be good to actually analyze the terms of some warranties before we state that as a rule.  That is an interesting law, and I can see the reason for it.  It wouldn't hurt at all to do more research on this issue.  One thing I would be interested in is if the law is ever applied.
