Definitely a good course of action to say use the manual as a starting point. I'm not sure enough of this to add it to the article but I believe that the friction additives the article mentions aren't necessarily an issue with lower grade oils. I think it is possible they weren't added until the SJ specification? Quite a few Japanese motorcycles will say in the OEM service manual that anything above SE is okay, but will read "SJ with JASO MA". That's what leads me to believe the friction additive wasn't added until SJ. --Budlight 08:44, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
