Legend says that Phil Irving, the Vincent chief-engineer, accidentally placed a wrong side up tracing of the Vincent 500 motor on top of an equally sized drawing of the same motor in such a manner that it formed a V-Twin. Moving it so that it would fit, resulted in the 47.5 degrees V-twin, which produced 45HP. Produced between 1935-1955, the 998cc Series A Rapide Vincent was capable of 110 miles per hour.

The Vincent HRD Series A Rapide was a v2, four-stroke standard produced by Vincent HRD between 1936 and 1946. It could reach a top speed of 110 mph (177 km/h). Claimed horsepower was 43.99 HP (32.8 KW) @ 5500 RPM.

Engine[edit | edit source]

A 84.0mm bore x 90.0mm stroke result in a displacement of just 998.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a overhead valves (ohv).

Drive[edit | edit source]

The bike has a 4-speed transmission. Power was moderated via the wet multiplate.

Chassis[edit | edit source]

Stopping was achieved via expanding brake (drum brake) in the front and a expanding brake (drum brake) in the rear. The front suspension was a gilder fork with coil over shock while the rear was equipped with a triangulated swingarm with coil over shocks. The wheelbase was 55.51 inches (1410 mm) long.
