The engine was a liquid cooled single cylinder, four-stroke. A 84.5mm bore x 75.0mm stroke result in a displacement of just 421.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a single overhead cams (sohc).

It came with a 25/8-12 front tire and a 25/10-12 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via double disc. hydraulic. in the front and a double disc. sealed oil-bathed multi-disc in the rear. The front suspension was a independent double wishbone, 5 position preload adjustment while the rear was equipped with a independent double wishbone, 5 position preload adjustment. The Grizzly 450 IRS was fitted with a 4.0 Gallon (15.14 Liters) fuel tank. The bike weighed just 589.96 pounds (267.6 Kg). The wheelbase was 48.5 inches (1232 mm) long.
2009 Yamaha Grizzly 450 IRSEdit
The 2008 Yamaha Grizzly 450 IRS is a smaller version of the 550, built for those riders on a slightly tighter budget, looking for a small-to-middle displacement off-road machine, and yet ruling out compromise from theirs ATV shopping list.
