The Yamaha RD80LC was a single cylinder, two-stroke standard produced by Yamaha in 1982. It could reach a top speed of 80 mph (128 km/h). Max torque was 0.66 ft/lbs (0.9 Nm) @ 7500 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 9.79 HP (7.3 KW) @ 8500 RPM.
Overview
The RD 80LC was the baby of the family, a bit cheeper to insure falling in to the sub 100cc group. It sold for just 2 years, It was not that popular a little spindly and when you could have the 125 for not a lot more wich had a big bike feel about it why go for the 80lc. Still quite a few did get sold and now days they are very rare to find and when you do come across one its usually a shed. They had a iron barrel not an alloy one like the rest of the family. Quite a few people put a 125lc lump in to the frame and they really did fly. I had a friend who did this after crashing his 125lc and picking up a shed 80lc for £100 he easily fitted the lump and everything over the weekend. It was so fast it left my MK2 125lc standing.
Engine
The engine was a oil & air cooled single cylinder, two-stroke. A 49.0mm bore x 42.0mm stroke result in a displacement of just 79.0 cubic centimeters.
Drive
The bike has a 6-speed transmission. Power was moderated via the wet plate.
Chassis
Stopping was achieved via single disc. single sliding piston caliper in the front and a expanding brake (drum brake) in the rear. The front suspension was a telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a yamaha monoshock. The RD80LC was fitted with a 2.64 Gallon (10.00 Liters) fuel tank. The bike weighed just 171.96 pounds (78.0 Kg). The wheelbase was 0.04 inches (1 mm) long.
