Launched in 1972 as an improved model of the [[Yamaha RT1|RT1]] and helped perpetuate Yamaha’s dominance of the off road market that they themselves had invented. The RT2 had detail improvements, but used basically the same 360cc engine, and works [[Yamaha]] [[motocross]] derived chassis.
As with the RT1, these machines are today highly desirable by classic bike collectors and command high prices when good models come on to the market
