The engine was a Air cooled cooled Four stroke, transverse four cylinder. DOHC. The engine featured a 9.7:1 compression ratio.

Chassis[edit | edit source]

It came with a 3.00-19 front tire and a 110 90-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Single disc 1 piston caliper in the front and a Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a 35mm Telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a Single shock, adjustable spring preload. The XJ400D was fitted with a 15 Liters / 3.9 US gal fuel tank. The bike weighed just 176 kg / 388 lbs.
