Engine
The engine was a Air cooled cooled Four stroke, parallel twin, DOHC, 2 valves per cylinder. The engine featured a 9.7:1 compression ratio.
Drive
Power was moderated via the Wet, multiplate.
Chassis
It came with a 3.00-18 front tire and a 4.10-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Single 10.5 in disc in the front and a Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a Hydraulic telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a Monocross system with single coil sprung, gas/oil damped shock, pre-load adjustable. The XS400 Maxim was fitted with a 17 Liters / 4.4 US gal fuel tank. The bike weighed just kg / 366 lbs. The wheelbase was 54.1 in long.
