The engine was a [[liquid cooled]] in-line three, four-stroke. A 78.0mm [[bore]] x 59.1mm [[stroke]] result in a [[displacement]] of just 847.0 cubic centimeters. Fuel was supplied via a double overhead cams/twin [[cam]] (dohc).

The bike has a 6-speed transmission. Power was moderated via the multiplate assist-and-slipper wet clutch.

It came with a 120/70-zr17 front [[tire]] and a 180/55-zr17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via double disc. abs. hydraulic. in the front and a single disc. abs. hydraulic. in the rear. The front suspension was a  telescopic forks while the rear was equipped with a single shock, adjustable preload and rebound damping. The XSR900 was fitted with a 3.7 Gallon (14.00 Liters) fuel tank. The wheelbase was 56.69 inches (1440 mm) long.
