The 2000 MY BMW R 900 RR Rally is the first attempt from the House of Munich to introduce a boxer engine in the world of enduro racing, and it was a relative success, the first prototype managing to grab a respectable 4th position in the November 1999 Dubai Rally. At its heart lies an air-cooled, four-stroke, 900cc, two cylinder boxer engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission that cna produce a claimed 90 horsepower at 8200 rpm.

Standard fittings include laced wheels with knobby tires mounted on them, a WP suspension package with a 48mm telescopic fork and a rear adjustable mono-shock, Brembo brakes with front and rear discs, a single seat, a racey, blue and white livery and an analogue and digital instrument cluster, and, for an extended range, it has a total of three fuel tanks, a main one with a capacity of 30-liters (7.9-gallons), one on the right side of 10-lites (2.6-gallons) and an under-seat one with a capacity of 3-liters (0.8-gallons) for a total fuel capacity of 43-liters (11.3-gallons).
