Davis is a customizer who could fairly claim to be the godfather of the current line of Softail Harleys. In the early 1980s, he built a bike with the rear suspension units hidden horizontally under the gear of professional swinging anti and frame were reworked to give the impression of a hardtail rear end, but with more contemporary comfort. The story goes that Vaughn Beals saw this bike at a rally and was so impressed that he ordered a factory version. The official Softail appeared in 1984, proved a tremendous hit and has been a big part of the Harley-Davidson line-up ever since.
