This was a racing class thought up in the early 1930s by Harley-Davidson and Indian for production machines, as opposed to expensive competition specials. The idea was to reduce the cost of racing, as both factories were finding the cost of special racers prohibitive. Instead, standard production 30ci (500cc) overhead-valve bikes were eligible for flat-track racing. Class C TT events (what we would now call motocross) and hill climbs also allowed 61.74 and 80ci (10011. 1200 and 1300cc) twins to compete in Class C. which had its first season in 1933. The rules, of course, were explicitly designed to suit Harley-Davidson and Indian twins.
