Overview[edit | edit source]
Gilera KK 125
KK was born as fully faired version of KZ, although it should not be considered an evolution of this: both bikes, in fact, born from the pencil of Luciano Marabese and are presented together with the Milan Show in November 1985. However, the Gilera prefers to await the market's reaction to KZ and sports, also because of the requirement of helmets introduced in 1986 that drastically reduces the number of motorcycles registered in Italy, KK decides to market only in December 1986. The strategy adopted by Gilera proves yet effective and KK sells pretty well, also because of the delay by up to 1987 competitors who submitted were unable to market their models. A good result for the home of Arcore, but now the die is cast and the competition this exceptional models as the 'Project 108 and the AF1 Aprilia Cagiva C9 and then opening the way for the best years of 125. 125 years of sports.
KK remains in production until 1989, without incurring any significant updates.
Price in 1987: 4.7 million lire (295,000 lire Chambers. Electric, though in fact it is standard)
Colors: Red with black saddle / Black with red saddle.
The Motion in brief:
The carenartura with good passenger seat-covers and graphics to give KK a renewed look much more 'sporty KZ, although both bikes share the same approach to help with harvesting stem and Rearsets. In fact, fairing aside, the only real difference. than the KZ and 'the presence of two fuel tanks: one located under the main engine and a secondary conventionally placed between the beams of the frame, but always hidden by the codon-shell monolithic serbatotio identical to KZ. The reasons for this change are to be found in two main reasons: 1) finding a center of gravity 'low and 2) the ability' to provide even minimal storage space thanks to the small size of the upper reservoir. However, the technical solution adopted, although refined and well thought out in terms of driving benefits not found with respect to KZ and also adds the complication of an electric pump for the suction of fuel from the main tank.
The location of the accessories (battery, oil tank, etc.) remains unchanged and so 'as the beautiful instrumentation and electrical controls.
Chassis:
There are differences from KZ.
Engine:
The engine of KK has the same specifications of the engine KZ, although some interventions have contributed to a slight overall increase in performance. We see such as:
New exhaust system more 'performance (visually similar to KZ) Recalibration of the carburetor (Dell'Orto always PHBH 28) Elimination of goodwill foot Final report extended
With regard to performance, KK with a maximum power to the wheel 25.71cv 9500giri (23.77cv 9250giri to the KZ) and a speed 'record for the highest category of well-157.600 (153.200 km / h KZ) check a new records in terms of power and data speed and accelerations. Only in the tests taken in the 400 meters to 50km / h, the KK record worsened compared to KZ and mainly due to the final elongated ratios: the data in fact confirm a time of 22.184 sec and a velocity 'output of 80.720 km / h (20.036 sec 97.300 km / h KZ)
