This model is powered by a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 271cc engine, placing it in the small displacement class (350cc class and below). The 11.0:1 compression ratio is 10% higher than the average sport-utility ATV. A higher compression ratio is desirable because it means an engine can do the same amount of work with less fuel, leading to increased efficiency and power for a given engine size; high compression ratios are indicative of high performance.

A cylinder bore of 2.86 in and a stroke of 2.57 in make this engine oversquare, meaning that it is more powerful than a similarly-sized engine with a smaller bore.
