The Kawasaki EX 500 R NINJA (GPZ 500S) was a Liquid cooled, four stroke, parallel twin, 4 valves per cylinder Sport Bike motorcycle produced by Kawasaki between 1987 and 2008. Max torque was 33.93 ft/lbs (46.0 Nm) @ 8500 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 59.94 HP (44.7 KW) @ 9800 RPM.

A 73.9mm bore x 73.9mm stroke result in a displacement of just 498.0 cubic centimeters.

Drive[edit | edit source]

The bike has a 6-Speed transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet multi-plate.

Chassis[edit | edit source]

It came with a 110/70-17 front tire and a 130/70-17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Hydraulic disc in the front and a Disc in the rear. The front suspension was a Hydraulic telescopic fork while the rear was equipped with a UNI-TRAK system with single shock. The wheelbase was 56.5 inches (1435 mm) long.

The GPZ 500 has been being manufactured since 1987 and suffered no major changes over the years. The bike was also known as GPX 500R, EX 500, Ninja 500 and Ninja 500R.

The bodywork of the original EX 500R was deep-sixed in favor of a nicely redesigned front fairing that offers slghtly more wind protection, along with a headlight source from the ZX-6.

The EX Ninja 500 R (GPZ 500S) liquid-cooled , eight valve engine hasn`t really changed much with the exception of a digital electronic ignition replacing the previous analog version.

The 2007 Kawasaki GPZ 500S is a first candidate for a first big bike and one with the performance and handling to tempt you to hold on to it after rivals have lost their appeal. The EX 500's liquid-cooled, eight-valve, double-overhead-cam twin engine hasn't really changed much since its inception (with the exception of a digital electronic ignition replacing the previous analog version), but then again, it doesn't really need to. With a quarter-mile time of 12.98 seconds at 99.0 mph and a 118-mph top speed, the Ninja 500 clearly has the most bang for the buck of any bike in its class.
