The engine was a Air cooled cooled Four stroke, parallel twin, push rod, hydraulic lifter, 2 valves per cylinder. The engine featured a 10.1:1 compression ratio.

Power was moderated via the Wet multi-plate with hydraulic lifter.
Chassis[edit | edit source]
It came with a 120/70 -17 front tire and a 180/55 -17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Brembo 2 x Ø320 mm fully-floating high carbon stainless steel discs, 4 piston Brembo radially mounted calipers. Brembo front brake master cylinder with integral reservoir in the front and a Brembo single Ø220 mm disc, 2 piston caliper. Brembo rear brake master cylinder in the rear. The front suspension was a Ø43 mm Öhlins USD, adjustable preload, compression, and rebound damping. while the rear was equipped with a Öhlins reservoir-style twin shocks, adjustable ride height, preload, compression, and rebound damping.. The Commando 961 SF MKII was fitted with a 17 Liters / 4.5 US gal fuel tank. The wheelbase was 1420 mm / 55.9 in long.

When the first Norton motorcycle, the Engerette, rolled out of the original Birmingham England factory in 1902, it was the birth of a lineage of motorcycles that shapes the motorcycle scene to this day. It is fitting that the new factory and world headquarters of Norton are based at the spiritual centre of British motorsport, the famous Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit, so near the traditional heart of the British motorcycle industry in Birmingham. We embrace the passion and pride of Nortons heritage, with our eyes firmly fixed on the future. Chassis and running gear
The Norton reputation for superior road-holding is legendary, and
continues by building a chassis of the finest materials with real
world geometry and settings. Norton frames are crafted in-house at
our Castle Donington factory from cold drawn 1 inch diameter, .08″
wall thickness European steel. The frame also acts as the oil
reservoir for the dry sump engine.
Road
manners are further enhanced by employing confidence inspiring and
fully adjustable Ohlins suspension both front and rear, while
braking tasks are handled by premier Brembo calipers, discs and
master cylinders.
