The Suzuki DL1000, also known as the V-Strom, is an "enduro sport tourer" motorcycle (sometimes included in the dual-sport category) made by Suzuki from 2002 to 2007. It has a 996 cc V-twin engine.
V-Strom owners are fond of riding their motorcycles to interesting locations and then taking photos of those locations, most often with their motorcycles.
The V-Strom motorcycle is based on the V-twin engine initially designed for the Suzuki TL1000S and TL1000R motorcycles.
The V-Strom incorporates design elements from other suzuki motorcycles including a suspension based on the GSX-R models.
2002[edit | edit source]
Problematic clutch basket, some replaced under warranty & some replaced by owner. Lean FI issue.
- Y7H = Blue (Dark Space Blue Met.) (US)
- YU8 = Dark Silver (Flint Gray Met) (US)
- YU9 = Yellow (Pearl Orpiment Yellow)
2003[edit | edit source]
Added fork preload adjusters. Alternator output increased to 400 watts. Clutch Slave cylinder dust cover on later production models. Clutch still a problem on early year production models. Lean FI issue continues. The K3 probably ran the best of all and had the least running complaints. Only year for the Yellow color (stateside), second year in Europe.
- YBA = Blue (Suzuki Deep No.2)
- YD8 = Silver (Sonic Silver Met.) (US)
- YU9 = Yellow (Pearl Orpiment Yellow) (US)
2004[edit | edit source]
Redesigned instrument cluster. Upgrade 16 bit to 32 bit ECU and changed a couple sensors. Different turn signals, 20 watt vice earlier 10 watt. New ones are dimmer because of no reflector. Belly pan redesign for tighter fit to the engine case. Stronger hand guards that attach to end of handlebar. New adjustable windscreen design. Left handlebar switch incorporates flash-to-pass & emergency blinkers (EU models had this from the start). Less deflection in new handlebars. Mirrors changed resulting in less broken mirror complaints. But the little plastic hinge covers started breaking. Clutch problems gone. Lean Fi issue may be a bit worst. Sister model KLV1000 launched in Europe.
- YBA = Blue (Suzuki Deep No.2) (US)
- YD8 = Silver (Sonic Silver Met.) (US)
- YAY = Black (Pearl Nebular Black)
2005[edit | edit source]
Black frame (Silver before) & Black rear frame covers (fairing color before). New quiet clutch cover. Headlight interrupt when starting. Lean FI issue continues.

2006[edit | edit source]
Seems that most of the FI issues appear to have been fixed.
- YHG = Dark Silver-Grey (Mat Oort Gray) (US)
- YHL = Red (Candy Sonoma Red) (US)
- YAY = Black (Pearl Nebular Black)
