Default K1200S Gearbox

2007 K1200S w/4K miles. Downshifting in the higher r's from 5th-4th am having trans issues. Worst part is I'm usually passing someone and the trans grinds & is difficult to get into gear. I'm 58 w/many years & miles (other bikes)on the road. Anybody else w/this prob?

Have you check the fluid level lately? Maybe it needs to be changed? How long have you had this BMW? Splines lubed? Clutch cable adjusted properly? Have you ridden others before? Sounds strange to me; I would get it checked out as to prevent other issues from happening. I know my bike (It's an R, and it's almost 20 years younger) the shifts have to be pre-loaded. I know on the R bikes if that happens, it means that a gear has walked down the shaft and is basically tearing up the transmission. It's not applicable to the K bikes, but definitely have a look see, or pay big $$$ later....
Here is the shifting technique for Beemers...

Good luck! :D
