Default Like an image and BMW donates to wilderness area

The maker of the BMW X1 is giving motorists who love the outdoors a chance to assist in guarding and protecting some good outdoor locations that need a helping hand. And it is not asking them to give a cent.

Giving as much help as possible

A virtual road trip of outdoor places throughout the country will start in Seattle, Washington on august 23 and end in New York City on September 10. This is the X1 Restore the outdoors plan that BMW of North America is doing.

The plan will allow the driver to post Instagram photographs from the trip on the RestoretheOutdoors.com Facebook page. The driver of the X1 will stop at 12 places and take the pictures during the two weeks.

Giving per like

For each picture "Liked," the business will pay $1 for the restoration and preservation of the photographed area, up to $10,000 for each spot.

Of course the work is as much about promoting the BMW X1 as it is about wilderness protection and ecology. But with so little effort and no expense on the line, it seems like an obvious win-win for every person concerned -- and most importantly for the selected outdoors area.

BMW’s Trudy Hardy explained:

Quote:
“So many people want to give back to our local communities and help protect and restore our natural habitat, but either don’t have the time or don’t know how best to contribute. With the X1 Restore the outdoors program and the help of our fans, we can give back to some of the places we love, with a simple ‘Like’.”
Places to go

There will be many stops starting with Seattle’s Discovery Park. Then there will be Portland’s Forest Park, California’s Redwood National Forest, Los Angeles’ Topanga State Park and Las Vegas’ Red Rock Canyon. Chicago’s Indiana Dunes will be the next stop. All that will happen before August 31 in the plan.

The last stop will be Tompkins Square Park in New York City, but there are a lot of places to stop before them. The X1 will be gaining momentum, BMW hits Houston, TX at the Sam Houston National Forest. The X1 still has to stop at the Oleta River State Park in Miami and Sweetwater Creek State Park in Atlanta. The River Bend Park in Washington D.C. will be the last stop before New York.
