Default What is a good price for a Harley Softail or VRod?

What are the signs of wear and tear that one should look for when buying a used Harley? Say 2004-2006.

depends on which Softail you like the Standard the Deluxe the Fatboy the Nightrain the Custom the Heritage the Springer in Arkansas you their is a place that has better deals than any other I have seen around 12500 for 04 -06 standard ,14500 for Nightrain and Fatboy.most have low miles around 5k to 10k look for twin cams perfer 6k or less the twin cam have rev limiters to protect from over revs, look for rust around allen bolts to see if weathered, look in the rear fender for rubber deep inside for (burn outs ) burning rubber , check the oil , take it for a spin , and several others compare they are well built above any other Vtwin, all parts that were junk in the 70s (AMF) have been out sourced from japan for a dependable prouduct today

first if you pay 20 g for a v rod you are a fool. and 04 should be aprox 12 to 15 for a bike with about 10k mi. or less. the softails vary a bit more like others said it depends on the model you should be able to find a nice standard for aprox 12 g. or aprox 14 for a delux, heritage, fatboy. don;t pay for the bolt on acc. the individual put on, most people privatly selling there bikes already took them to a dealership and didn't like the trade in value so they want you to pay what they think it is worth. 04-06 bikes have went down in value because you can buy a new bike with a two year warranty and a 96in motor and 6 speed for"x"price or you can buy an 88 and a 5 speed for 2 to 4 grand less sligtly used. look at as many bikes as you can and you will find i nicely used example for a reasonable price. good luck.

I'd stay away from the VRod due to resale value being suspect. If you want a Softail ( 04 - 06 ) you can get a Softail standard ( base model ) for as little as $11K...and on up to about $15K for a Nostalgia. Since a new one is only about $14.5K ( Softail Std )...why not do that? You would then have a warranty and factory support, not to mention cheaper loan rates and insurance rates.
