Trash in bottom of tank, being picked up when run on reserve. You'll have to drain the float bowls, maybe clean the carbs. You need to drain the tank, and clean out the tank and the petcock.lha

What is the best way to clean the petcock and gas tank, there does not appear to be rust inside the tank.

The only way to clean the petcock is to drain the gas out and remove the petcock, then take it apart carefully and clean it thoroughly including the filter, then rinse out the tank with a little gas before replacing the petcock. It is not necessary to remove the membrane at the suction line. lha

So I was able to clean carbs and put them back together successfully and install an inline fuel filter. The bike still has issues starting but once its started runs nice until it warms up and revs around 4k rpms with choke open. It is also backfiring while driving once and a while, suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Check for leaks very carefully by spraying W-D 40 around carb joints, other possible places. If the motor races, you've found a leak. This can be done with other things such as starter fluid[ether]and a propane torch[unlit],but W-D 40 is safer and evaporates without much residue. lha
