Default How to tighten up an motorcycle clutch?

I have an 88 Ducati 750 Paso whose clutch is very loose-when I'm holding the clutch down and the bike is on 1st gear, the bike goes. I'm trying to play around with the screws at the end of the clutch cable, but no matter what I do the clutch is still loose. If anyone can help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
