Default Is the Triumph Bonneville (2001) a good bike for a novice?

I have a 125cc and soon take my UK bike test. I love classic bikes but think it might be a good idea to get a modern bike for my first'big'bike. The Triumph Bonneville seems a good compromise and the 2001 model seems to fit nicely in my £3500 price band.Does it have any quirks that wouldn't suit a beginner? Thanks.
